A cycle expedition of the Territorial Army (TA) Platinum Jubilee was flagged off from Veer Smriti War Memorial, Chandimandir Military Station by Major General Puneet Ahuja, Major General General Staff (MGGS) (Ops) Yesterday, for their onward journey to National War Memorial, New Delhi.
The Territorial Army, marking 75 years of dedicated service to the nation, has organised a historic expedition to mark the occasion. The expedition, which commenced from the formidable terrain and the icy heights of Siachen Glacier, the world’s highest battlefield, has traversed through some of the most challenging and diverse landscapes. Starting from Siachen Glacier to Indira Point, the southernmost tip of India, the expedition includes cycling, sailing and scuba diving.
(SUBHEAD)The expedition team arrived at Chandigarh after covering a distance of 865 kilometers traversing through the states of Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. The team paid tribute to the war heroes at Veer Smriti War Memorial, Chandimandir Military Station. MGGS, on behalf of the Army Commander, Western Command, and all ranks conveyed best wishes to the team for the journey ahead.
The team of cyclists, led by Major Abhinav Rawat comprising 02 Officers, 03 Junior Commissioned Officers and 16 Other Ranks from various units has been braving extreme weather conditions, rugged terrains and demanding altitudes, embodying the indomitable spirit of the Indian Army.
Throughout their spirited journey, the team interacted with local population, Ex-servicemen, veterans of the Indian Army and families of war heroes. In addition, they have carried out various activities to motivate the youths to join the Indian Army, promote spirit of adventure and tree plantation to highlight the importance of environmental conservation.
