Punjab Governor and Administrator Chandigarh Shri Gulab Chand Kataria today organized a public hearing (Janta Darbar) at the UT Secretariat and directly interacted with the common people and listened to their problems. A large number of citizens spoke on various issues, including complaints related to civic amenities, public services and welfare schemes.

The Governor listened to each complaint seriously and directed the concerned officials to take action . He said, “Unless you listen to the public, you will not be able to understand their pain.” It is not just a matter of listening, but a record of every complaint will be maintained and its resolution will also be ensured.”

He also clarified that people should be informed in advance about the reason for which they are coming to meet, so that its proper resolution can be done as per the rules.

The Administrator said, “I am a public servant. This is a constitutional post and it is my responsibility to serve the public while holding this post. Sitting on this chair, how to protect that chair – this is my duty.”

After the Janta Darbar, the Administrator held a meeting with senior officers of the Chandigarh Administration, in which the complaints received from the public were reviewed. He directed the officers to ensure sensitivity, promptness and transparency in resolving public grievances.
