DELHI POLICE BUSTED ILLEGAL CRICKET MATCH GAMBLING , SIX ACCUSED ARRESTED,

East District Police have successfully busted a betting racket engaged in illegal cricket match gambling using electronic means. Six accused persons were apprehended red-handed, and a large cache of electronic devices, registers, and betting-related material was seized.
 
On 13.09.2025, a PCR call regarding illegal gambling was received at PS Mayur Vihar vide DD No. 5A. Acting swiftly, Emergency Officer PSI Akash Singh along with the team of SI Ajay Sharma, SI Azad Singh Malik, PSI Pankaj Phogat, HC Hakam rushed to the given address in Chilla Village, Delhi. Upon verification, six persons were found actively engaged in betting on an international cricket match (England vs South Africa) using laptops, mobile phones, and call patching devices.

(SUBHEAD)The raid was conducted in the intervening night of 12/13.09.2025, where the accused were apprehended on the spot. The arrest was made possible by meticulous efforts of the team of PS Mayur Vihar comprising Emergency Officer PSI Akash Singh & the team collectively under the control of SHO PS Mayur Vihar and supervision of ACP Sub Division Mayur Vihar after sincerely persuasion of PCR call.

Mr. Abhishek Dhania, IPS, Dy. Commissioner of Police, said, East District, DelhiOn interrogation, it was revealed that the gang was running an organized betting racket using multiple gadgets and electronic means. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 393/2025, U/s 3/4/9 Delhi Public Gambling Act, 1955 has been registered at PS Mayur Vihar Phase-I.

MODUS OPERANDI

Betting Den Setup – The accused had rented a flat in Chilla Village, equipped with laptops, mobile phones, GSM call patching system, WiFi routers, LED TV, and other accessories.

Use of Live Cricket Matches – Matches were streamed on an LED TV, and clients were lured to place bets on different outcomes. 

Technology-Driven Operations  32 mobile phones used for receiving/managing bets.  GSM call patching system for handling multiple calls simultaneously. o Laptops with betting websites for real-time updates. Detailed Record Keeping – Registers and ledgers were maintained to track client transactions, winnings, and losses.

PROFILE: –Lal Babu Sahani (43 yrs) – R/o Chilla Village, Delhi. Jitender Sharma (26 yrs) – R/o West Guru Angad Nagar, Delhi. Raju Shah (34 yrs) – R/o New Kondli, Delhi.  Dileep Sahani (40 yrs) – R/o Gharoli Gaon, Delhi.  Himanshu Ravi (24 yrs) – R/o Chilla Village, Delhi.  Mohit (27 yrs) – R/o Chilla Village, Delhi.

RECOVERY:  03 laptops with betting sites open. 32 mobile phones (16 smartphones + 16 keypad phones). 01 GSM call patching device. Registers & ledgers containing detailed betting accounts. 01 printer, 05 calculators & stationery. Cash Rs. 2,720/- and coins.  01 LED TV displaying the live cricket match.
