A 26 member team of Western Command set off on a cycling expedition on the route Chandimandir – Jalandhar – Pathankot – Yol Cantt – Mamun – Jammu – Amritsar-Ferozpur – Ludhiana – Patiala – Kunjpura – New Delhi – Meerut – Ambala and back to Chandimandir on 13 Sep 2022 to commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of Western Command and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The expedition was flagged off by Major General GS Kahlon SM, Officiating Chief of Staff Western Command.
The team of cyclists are led by Maj Rakesh Kumar, an experienced cyclist. The cyclists will face the daunting task of covering 1800 Kms in 18 days and passing through seven states and will culminate at Chandimandir on 13 Sep 2022 to commemorate a befitting tribute to the veterans and veer naris for their sacrifice towards Nation on its 75 years of Independence.(SUBHEAD)
The main objective of the expedition is to visit remote localities enroute, interact with local people and spread awareness about different schemes launched by Indian Army for the welfare of ex-servicemen, war veterans, war widows and veer naris. Besides, the stress will be laid on motivating youth to join the Indian Army. It also aims to foster brotherhood between Indian Army and the youth.
The expedition will pedal its way through Punjab before, entering Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Haryana and Uttarakhand. Preparation and training had commenced early on to prepare the team for this monumental challenge. The team had a graduated practice schedule which helped them to build up their endurance and stamina.
Flagging in of the team at Chandimandir will be done by Lieutenant General Nav K Khanduri, AVSM, VSM, GOC-in C Western Command.
