Sriganganagar police has sent a proposal to the state headquarter to set up an Anti-Terrorist Squad Center in the district that shares boundaries with Punjab and Pakistan.
(MOREPIC1)SP Paris Deshmukh said at a meeting with the media that the need for an ATS center in Sriganganagar district is being felt due to increasing cases of drug and arms smuggling from across the border and current situation in the neighbouring Punjab state besides the activities of some gangs. The approval of the state government is awaited. The opening of the ATS center will help in tackling cross-border smuggling, criminal gangs and necessity arising out of the situation in Punjab.
(SUBHEAD)He said that there are three top priorities of the district police. Firstly, to stop the undesirable activities from across the border in the Indian territory, secondly, strict action against organized criminals and thirdly, the campaign against drugs. At present there are adequate arrangements to prevent undesirable activities on the international border adjoining the district. The villagers in the border area keep a close watch on suspicious elements. The attitude of the district police is completely strict against the miscreants and their gangs who also indulge in incidents of firing to collect extortion and ransom from businessmen.
Asked about the incident of firing and injuring of one miscreant during the arrest of three henchmen of Anmol Bishnoi, brother of Lawrence Bishnoi in village Sadhuwali, the SP said that people have no need to be afraid of such miscreants. No stone will be left unturned to bring the miscreants under control. In last week's incident, a henchman of the Bishnoi gang was injured after being shot by the police. Intriguingly, the drug problem is heading towards a national disaster. Prevention is the need of thehour, Deshmukh said.
The SP was welcomed by Sanjay Sethi while Govind Goyal conducted the proceedings.
