Sikh organisations have welcomed Rajasthan govt’s decision to constitute Shri Guru Nanak Dev Sikh Welfare Board. Rajasthan is likely to go for Vidhan Sabha polls after a few months. The Board will have a chairman, a vice-chairman and five members. It will be administered by the minority affairs department.
Former project chairman of Gang Canal Gurbalpal Singh Sandhu, State Congress Committee member Baldev Singh Brar and Dr Tej Pratap Singh Sandhu were among those present.
Sikh leaders had held at a meeting with Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot recently had demanded that a separate Rajasthan Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (RGPC) be constituted. Dr Sandhu said that due to the long and complicated process of formation of this committee, there was some problem. The government will have to draft an act for RGPC first. But we hope, he said, RGPC will come into existence in Rajasthan sooner or later.(SUBHEAD)
The leaders said, “Our meeting with the CM was arranged by Punjab former Deputy CM Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa. In this conversation, the problems faced by the Punjabi people in the state and their issues were kept in a better way. Chief Minister Gehlot showed seriousness on this and as a result Shri Guru Nanak Dev Sikh Welfare Board has been announced.”
Rajasthan is the first state in the country to announce such a board. Sikh leaders believe that it will greatly benefit the Punjabis, especially the people of the Sikh community. The Board should have its headquarters at Jaipur and a sub-office be opened in Sriganganagar as this district is dominated by Punjabi speaking communities, they said. They thanked the state government for sanctioning crores of rupees for the development of Gurudwara Buddha Johad of historical background in Sriganganagar district. EOM
