CASE RELATED TO FRAUDULENTLY CHEATING BSNL

The Special Judge for CBI Cases, Kolkata has sentenced Shri Chandan Biswas, a then Telecom Office Assistant and Cashier at BSNL Kolkata to 7 years' Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) with fine of Rs. 25,000/- in a case related to fraudulently cheating BSNL.

A case was registered by CBI on 30.05.2003 against Shri Chandan Biswas, then a Telecom Office Assistant and Cashier at BSNL Kolkata on allegations that the accused while serving in his capacity entered into a criminal conspiracy with unknown individual to defraud BSNL. It was alleged that through dishonest and fraudulent means, and by wilfully abusing his official position, accused cheated BSNL to the tune of Rs. 11,00,926/-.

After completion of investigation, chargesheet was filed on 31.01.2005 against said accused.

The Court, after trial, held accused guilty and sentenced him accordingly.

The conviction comes in the wake of meticulous investigation and effective prosecution by CBI team presenting plausible evidences which were upheld by the Ld Trial Court.
