A deadly spell from Jagjit Singh Sandhu during the final session of the day helped UT boys to bounce back in the Ranji trophy match against Assam at Barsapara on Sunday. After reducing Assam for 266, visitors scored 374 in the first innings. Later, Assam was reduced to 144/7 in the second innings as hosts were marginally ahead of 36 runs as three players are yet to be dismissed.

Earlier, Chandigarh resumed its overnight score from 301/5 and added 73 runs to bundle out for 374. Raj Angad Bawa scored 146 runs with eight boundaries and nine sixes while captain Manan Vohra (59) and Manyak Sidhu (57) also scored half centuries.

Rahul Singh took four wickets. Thereafter, Assam had a cautious start in their second innings and scored 45 runs in the first twenty overs. Bawa drew the first blood in the form of Rahul Hazarika. Nishank Birla (2/36) equally proved vital with two wickets with 117/4 on the board. In the last seven overs of the day, Jagjit Sandhu (4/39) struck out the middle order for the dominance over opposition. Assam was struggling with 144/7 before the stumps were drawn.
