Indian Navy and 16 Cavalry dominated on the second day of Maharaja Ranjit Singh National Polo Tournament being played at Chandigarh Polo Club, Khuda Lahora on Tuesday. One match of the Young Riders Cup was also played in the morning session.
Indian Navy defeated Artillery 9-5 in a thrilling end. Dhruv Pal Godhara stole the show as this Jaipur based rider scored six goals for the winning team. Godhara excelled by scoring three goals in the first Chakkar (round) which maintained a healthy 4-1 lead for Indian Navy. Godhara was instrumental by scoring two more goals in the second round with 9-2 scoreline on the board. Grenadier Uday Kumar of Artillery tried his best to make a comeback by smashing three goals but not good enough to avoid his defeat by 9-5.
(SUBHEAD)Earlier, the Indian Army's only horse mounted regiment 61 Cavalry proved why they are the favourite of the tournament. In a one-sided affair, the team defeated Remount and Veterinary Corps (RVC) by 15-0.5. Lt Col Vishal Chauhan almost single handedly steered the win for his team.
Veteran of four representations in the Polo World Cup, Chauhan scored eight goals in the entire match. The match was evenly poised with a scoreline of 2-0.5 till the first round. Thereafter, Chauhan’s five targets in the second round read the scoreline at 10-0.5. Chauhan maintained the same spirit with his fellow riders – Major Anant Rajpurohit (4) and Captain Anmol Waraich to seal the game by 15-0.5.
Panchkula beat Chandigarh by 5-1 at the Young Riders Cup played in the morning. Vijay Shakya scored four goals for the winning team while Amaan Warring smashed a single goal for Chandigarh.
