BUSINESSMEN DEMAND RELOCATION OF ABOHAR CITY-2 POLICE STATION

Face2News/Abohar.

Raising an important issue concerning the location of the City-2 Police Station, businessmen said at a police-public meeting on Tuesday that due to a railway line dividing the town geographically into two parts, the oldest police station has not been able to provide required relief. The crime rate is significantly higher in the Nai Abadi and adjoining area.

The police station—which is designated to serve these areas—is currently situated within the urban core. Despite repeated appeals, the Police Department has yet to take any cognizance of this matter. Consequently, whenever any anti-social incident occurs, the police from City-2 invariably fail to reach the crime scene on time, primarily because the railway crossings situated along the route are frequently closed. Durgiana Market Association president Rajesh Gupta said that they have repeatedly demanded the relocation of City-2 police station to the area across the railway line, yet to date, no action has been taken.

Expressing his dissatisfaction with the current policing system, Suresh Satija, President of the Beopar Mandal, said that while the trading community has consistently extended its cooperation to the police, they do not receive the expected level of support in return. He expressed surprise that the notice for the meeting was issued merely half an hour in advance, which prevented a larger number of traders from attending. He urged the police to improve their attitude towards traders and to address their concerns with due seriousness.

SSP Gurmeet Singh assured to consider issues raised by the business community seriously.
