At a meeting, Punjab Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh assured Abohar MLA Sandeep Jakhar that vacancies of specialist doctors in the Civil Hospital here will be filled soon.
Jakhar brought to the HM’s notice that no anaesthesiologist had been appointed by the department in the 100-bedded Sub-Divisional Civil Hospital here for the last six months. As per the instructions of the state government, each time a private anaesthesiologist used to be invited to the hospital and he/she was paid a fixed remuneration for each operation.
The system was useful in saving lives in emergency cases besides other patients. Suddenly the state government slashed the fee payable to private anaesthesiologists by fifty percent. This has deeply affected surgeries/emergencies as private anaesthesiologists were not ready to visit the Civil Hospital on calls for the past few days. Such a situation also hurts the image of the government besides depriving needy patients of the facilities, the MLA said.
The MLA also informed the minister that ENT specialist and an Eye Surgeon were appointed in the hospital here two months ago, but due to lack of equipment, the patients visiting the hospital were not being operated on. The minister assured to solve the problem soon
