JUSTICE AFTER 40 YEARS : DELHI POLICE WORK OUT 40 YEARS OLD COLD MURDER CASE

The Central Range Crime Branch Delhi has achieved a significant breakthrough by apprehending a wanted criminal, an absconder who had been evading arrest for nearly four decades in connection with a cold murder case registered in the year 1986 vide FIR No. 375/1986 under Sections 302/34 IPC at Police Station Shakarpur, East District, Delhi. The accused, Chandra Shekhar Prasad, a native of Nalanda, Bihar was continued on run since last 40 years by frequently relocating across Punjab, Bihar, Haryana and Delhi.

BACKGROUND OF THE CASE

On October 19, 1986 accused Chander Shekhar Prasad allegedly murdered his wife by crushing her head with bricks, motivated by suspicious of an extramarital affair. During the assault, the accused and his accomplices held the domestic help at gun point. After committing the offence, the accused Chander Shekhar Prasad and his associates never been arrested and remained absconding continuously. Subsequently, accused Chander Prakash was declared absconder by the court in 1987.No breakthrough occurred for 40 years.

THE CHALLENGES:-

 The case remained unsolved for over 40 years, with no clue about the culprits.  Identifying the accused posed a major challenge, as he was around 40 years old at the time of the incident and is now approximately 84 years old.  No fragile/digital courts record at that era and there was a complete absence of modern identification aids—no Aadhaar records, no mobile data trail, no photographs etv.

During the investigation, it has been found that the children of the accused is settled and residing in Delhi and Bihar with their family.

 The suspicious mobile numbers discreetly obtained and placed under surveillance.  A thorough investigation was conducted at the accused’s native place and, its revealed that the accused is alive and occasionally visiting.

During field verification in Nalanda, Bihar, it was confirmed that the accused was alive and occasionally visited during religious or family events. Based on technical inputs regarding his visit following a family bereavement, surveillance was mounted.

As a result of sustained human intelligence and technical analysis, the movement of the accused was observed, ultimately leading to the tracing of his presence in North-West Delhi. A tactical trap was laid on 22.04.2026, the accused Chander Shekhar Prasad was apprehended from a storeroom of a factory at Nangli Poona, Alipur, Delhi, where he was hiding under a false identity.

LIFE ON THE RUN:- Lived across Bihar, Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi. Took shelter for some time at the ashram of Haryana. Worked as a rickshaw puller in Patiala Punjab.  Successfully evaded law enforcement for four decades.

uring interrogation, the accused confessed to committing the murder of his wife. He disclosed that frequent domestic disputes arose due to his suspicion regarding her character. On 19.10.1986, driven by anger and suspicion, he, along with his associates, murdered his wife and fled immediately thereafter.

KNOW THE ACCUSED: Chandra Shekhar Prasad came to Delhi in 1969 and was employed as a composer with a news paper. He got married with deceased in 1971 and started residing in Shakarpur area with his family.
