Chandigarh Police registered FIR  under Sections 4(b) and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act at Police Station 36, Chandigarh, on the basis of specific intelligence regarding the movement of suspected operatives associated with Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) in Chandigarh, on Friday.

Acting on the intelligence, a police team apprehended three persons, namely:  Lovepreet Singh, aged 19 years, resident of Village Sarhali, District Tarn Taran, Punjab.  Jashanpreet Singh @ Jashandeep, aged 21 years, resident of Village Deobath, District Tarn Taran, Punjab. and  Prabhpreet Singh @ Prabh, aged 19 years, resident of Village Tarsikka, District Amritsar, Punjab.

During the operation, the following items were recovered:  Approximately 5 kg of gelatin stick explosives.  One detonator,  Power source and remotely operated system,  One pistol,  One magazine and five live cartridges

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused persons had allegedly come in contact with Satnam @ Satta Naushera, a foreign-based handler associated with Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). They were allegedly acting on his directions and had planned to plant an IED in Chandigarh with the intention of creating terror.

The recovery of explosives, triggering components and firearms has been taken into possession as per law. Further investigation is underway to establish the wider network, source of the explosive material and the role of other associates.
