DEVA RETURNS HOME AFTER LIVING FOR FIVE MONTHS IN A CHILDREN’S HOME

Raj Sadosh/Abohar.

On the night of December 3, 2025, the Sri Ganganagar Child Helpline team discovered a boy—identified as Deva—in a destitute and unaccompanied state aboard the Rishikesh Intercity Express train. The child was presented before the Child Welfare Committee, and subsequently sent to the Vivek Ashram Children’s Home for shelter. When the CWC and the Child Helpline conducted counselling sessions with the boy, he was unable to provide comprehensive details regarding his family. He could only state that he hailed from Jharkhand, had come to work alongside his elder brother, and had subsequently become separated from him.

CWC Chairman Joginder Kaushik said that through continuous counselling sessions, the boy’s place of residence was eventually traced. The boy was periodically shown videos depicting various regions of Jharkhand; during this process, he recognized the British-era ‘Martello Tower’ (now known as Sidhu Kanhu Park) located in Pakur, Jharkhand.

Child Helpline Coordinator Trilok Verma contacted the CWC in Pakur and forwarded the boy’s Social Audit Report, requesting their assistance in locating his family. After five months of persistent effort, the boy’s family was successfully located. The boy has now returned home; the CWC of Sri Ganganagar has directed to hand over the child to the custody of the CWC, Pakur.

Present at the time of the boy’s repatriation were CWC chairman Joginder Kaushik, member Dr. Ram Prakash Sharma, Child Helpline Coordinator Trilok Verma, ASI Prahlad Meena from the Reserve Police Lines, and Sadhvi Ritubala from Vivek Ashram.
