CBI COURT SENTENCES ACCUSED THEN DOCTOR OF AIR INDIA MUMBAI TO 3 YEARS RI WITH FINE OF RS ONE LAKH IN BRIBERY

The Special Judge for CBI cases, Ahmedabad, today sentenced accused Dr. Suresh Marotrao Bhagatkar, then Doctor of Air India, Mumbai to 03 years’ Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) with a fine of Rs One lakh in a case of bribery.

CBI had registered the instant case on 03.01.2011 against aforesaid accused on allegations of bribery/corruption. It was alleged that accused conducted medical examination of a person for his appointment to the post of Security Agent in Air India Air Transport Corporation Limited, subsidiary of Air India Ltd., and had demanded illegal gratification from complainant during conversation over mobile phone and asked him to pay Rs. 20,000/- to 25,000/- to adjust his blood report favourably.

(SUBHEAD)Accused Dr. Suresh Marotrao Bhagatkar further reiterated his demand of bribe and asked him to deposit the said demanded amount in his bank account, and subsequently sent his account number for depositing the demanded bribe. An amount of Rs. 5000 was deposited in above mentioned account as per directions of accused.

After completion of investigation, chargesheet was filed by CBI on 09.11.2011 against accused.

During trial, 27 prosecution witnesses were examined and 49 documents/ exhibits in support of the charges against the accused person were relied upon.

The Court, after trial, found accused guilty and sentenced him accordingly.
